Online Privacy Tools for Parents and Kids of all ages

Parents and children can protect themselves from online predators and voyeurs with privacy tools such as OTR, Tor, and GnuPG.

About This Session

This session will introduce parents and their children to trusted free software privacy tools such as Off-the-Record (OTR), Tor, The Amnesic Incognito Live System (TAILS), and GNU Privacy Guard (GnuPG). Since OTR, Tor, and GnuPG are free software, the user has access to all of their source code. This is an invitation for children to dive in and learn how the software works from the inside out! A tutorial will also be presented on how to write a shell script to randomize a laptop's MAC address each time the computer boots, and we will look at ways to prevent our computers from broadcasting their hostnames.
