Like superintelligence, practical quantum computing appears to be half a decade away... every half decade. In this session, we'll take a look at the basic principles behind quantum computing, the whys behind its potential, as well as the history of breakthroughs and developments in that space. We'll make a lengthy detour into programming quantum computer emulators with Visual Studio, Q# and Azure. We'll finish up by looking at the most promising pathways for making quantum computing practical and review whether it can indeed render all current encryption schemes obsolete and become the quickest path towards superintelligence.
