About Erick
Erick's a developer who's managed engineering teams and built sites from the ground up. From a multi million visits a year comparison shopping site Nextag.com to the mobile platform StackMob, he's been working with Java/Scala/JS/HTML5 and CSS3 to get the job done. Most recently he's been building out the JS SDK for StackMob to help other developers get their ideas to market! Knowing that he's helping people fulfill their imagination is incredibly satisfying. He hopes to continue to help more in the community.

  • Javascript HTML5 Web Apps: Adding server-side persistence (and more) in minutes

    3:30 PM Saturday   Room: 4201
RELATED TALKS: 11:15am Saturday: Backbone.js + jQuery Mobile = Awesomesauce (Sidney Maestre) 1:45pm Saturday: Building Cross Platform Applications with Adobe PhoneGap (Kevin Schmidt) Javascript is quickly becoming the tool of choice for building the next generation of web and mobile apps. But it's not just for the frontend. Javascript can also help power the backend, giving your web app server-side persistence and more. Whether you're developing a webapp or an iOS/Android app using PhoneGap with Javascript, you can add out-of-the-box server-side persistence in minutes. Leave the talk learning how to add server side persistence to your Javascript powered app with StackMob's free service with its open-source JS SDK. You'll have a backend running in < 15 minutes. Authentication, Geolocation, localstorage, access controls, and other HTML5 features are built-in. You'll also learn how you can write optional custom Java/Scala/Clojure code and upload it to StackMob to run it server side. You can even call that server side code from your Javascript. Need a place to host it? You can host your web app on StackMob too. We'll be using the free (but full featured) version of StackMob's service in this talk. It's available to everyone attending.
