Building custom web parts has always been one of the best ways to extend SharePoint functionality and create applications based on the SharePoint platform. This presentation will review the steps required to build a web part for SharePoint 2007, then outline the improved tools and simplified processes for building web parts in SharePoint 2010. No experience building custom solutions in SharePoint is required to understand this presentation, but a basic familiarity with SharePoint is recommended.

In previous versions of Visual Studio, tools for SharePoint development were an afterthought. In Visual Studio 2010 SharePoint is a first-class citizen with many tools and project templates baked right in. This presentation will review the ways in which Visual Studio 2010 is the perfect tool for creating custom solutions based on the SharePoint platform. No previous custom SharePoint development experience is required to understand this presentation, but a basic familiarity with SharePoint is recommended.
